Scottie Scheffler is currently in exceptional form. He has recently won his second Green Jacket in three years. Prior to this, Scheffler had also won two of his last three starts at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players.
He placed second in the one tournament he did not win during that time period.
This week, Scheffler is participating in the RBC Heritage, the fifth Signature Event of the PGA Tour season.
As he aims to continue his impressive performance, the PGA Tour Champions is hosting the Invited Celebrity Classic.
Tony Romo, an outstanding golfer and the defending champion of the event, is considered one of the best golfers who previously played professionally in another sport.
Before starting play, Romo shared his thoughts on Scheffler’s achievements.
“I can’t say enough about Scottie… I don’t think I’ve ever played a round of golf with Scottie Scheffler and him not break 70, ever. Which is insane. Like now I’m actually starting to count it, where I am like, we’ve got to be around 500, and I’m like, not one day you’re off in golf where you shoot 70, 71.”
Romo may have exaggerated the number of rounds they’ve played together, but he has recently played with Scheffler.
“[I] played with him the week before the Masters… I remember thinking playing with him at Brook Hollow, ‘oh, my gosh, I have not seen a guy hit a golf ball like this since Tiger back in the 2000s when I played with him,’ the way he was striking the ball, the compression, the trajectory, the spin rate. It was impressive, and I was like, he ain’t losing that tournament.”
Romo then summarized what many golf fans have been thinking for a while.
“If he putts well, he wins. If not, he’s in the mix.”
Scheffler dominates when his putting is on point. His driving accuracy, ball striking, and short game are among the best in the sport.
Before the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Scheffler changed his putter. Despite ranking 144th in putting, he finished no worse than T17 at The American Express.
Since the putter change, he has secured 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st placements.
It’s evident that when Scheffler putts well, he excels. His recent statistics align with prime Tiger Woods, showing his remarkable skill.
The lingering question is how long Scheffler can maintain this exceptional level of performance.
